What a great first meeting for the 2020-21 school year on Tuesday, October 20th! We started our meeting off with social time before getting down to business. It was a great opportunity to connect with everyone, even if it was just virtually.

To kick the meeting off, we adopted our PTA’s mission and goals for the year and our standing rules. We also reviewed the financials and approved the 2020-21 budget.

Membership is targeting to reach 275 members by the end of October. As of the meeting, we had 231 members - so we NEED YOUR HELP!! As an incentive to join now, the membership committee is having a drawing! Everyone who becomes a member before our November 3rd board meeting will be entered into a drawing to win a FREE large pizza delivered to their home.

Our program chairs shared brief updates on what is happening with their programs. Although, this year may not look like a typical school year, PTA is adapting to offer our programs in a new way. Also, knowing this is a difficult year for families we are offering opportunities for parent education, which is being offered in both English and Spanish.

Our new Advocacy Chair, Adnan Siddiqui shared WSPTA Legislative Assembly is happening virtually on October 24th and 25th. Canyon Creek PTA will be sending 5 delegates to vote on WSPTA Legislative priorities.

Principal Denton was our special guest. He introduced Canyon Creek’s administration team and answered pre-submitted questions and took some questions from group. Canyon Creek has new playground equipment installed and is ready to welcome back students when school buildings re-open. The school is also having a second supply pick up event so teachers can send home supplies to their students.

Our President, Karen Smith, also asked for volunteers for the Nominating Committee. If you would like to help in selecting nominees for our 2021-22 executive board, please contact Karen at president@canyoncreekpta.org.

We look forward to seeing you at our next General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, November 10th via Zoom.
