Our PTA was well represented at the 2019 Washington State PTA Convention over the weekend of April 26-28th. The following past, current and future Canyon Creek PTA executive board members were in attendance for at least one of the three days: Melanie McKenzie, Nicole Trimble, Emily Cross, Barby Taheri, Jennifer Snyder, Jennifer Herrman & Robin Zaback. All executive board members must complete at least one approved training class - and classes taken during this convention will satisfy that requirement for the 2019-20 school year.
Not only did the attendees take classes to develop their PTA knowledge and leadership skills, but they were also delegates for our PTA membership - attending the General Meetings, voting on updates to the Washington State PTA bylaws and electing the 2019-21 Washington State PTA Board of Directors.
One of the highlights of the General Meetings was the keynote speaker, JC Pohl, CEO and President of Teen Truth. This wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of Lifetouch + Shutterfly. JC wrote a guest blog to share with all of our members "An Easy Way To Connect Students On Your Campus". One key concept is that "it’s imperative that we intentionally connect every student on campus to at least one charismatic adult."
In case you missed it, another exciting event was the announcement of Dr. Michelle Reid as WSPTA Outstanding Educator of the Year. We were able to get a great photo with Dr. Reid and all the Northshore School District PTA leaders in attendance at the time! More info.
Canyon Creek PTA is so excited to have been awarded the following awards for the 2018-19 school year! Special thanks to Jennifer Herrman (our VP-Programs) who worked to collect and present all of the required documentation to apply for these awards - and a special shout out to Robin Zaback for putting together the Advocacy application and Melanie McKenzie for the Family and Community Engagement application!
We are proud of all that has been accomplished in our Canyon Creek school community this year - with all of our AMAZING chairs, volunteers and community!! We look forward to another great year of fun, learning and community building in the 2019-20 school year.
