Do you know what it means to be inclusive in our school and local community?
You may ask what is inclusion? Simply put, inclusion is the act of being included.
We all know what it feels like to be excluded- and it does not feel good.
Let’s do better for ourselves and our students!
Folk wisdom tells us that young children don't notice differences or have any biases, yet research is telling us otherwise. What are age appropriate ways to develop intentionally inclusive and identity conscious children?
This session will give parents of children from elementary to middle school, a developmental timeline for when kids notice difference, absorb biases, and believe stereotypes (much earlier than most adults think).
Parents will learn age appropriate conversational tools and advice for:
Since 2004, Rosetta has been a diversity speaker and trainer on a variety of topics, including cross cultural communication, identity development, implicit and unconscious bias, gender and sexuality diversity, facilitation skills, and bullying in schools. Rosetta has presented at numerous conferences and nonprofit organizations such as the White Privilege Conference, Junior League, and City Year. She has also worked with over 250 K-12 public and independent schools throughout the country, as well as a number of colleges and universities. She has served several years on the faculty of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Diversity Leadership Institute, as well as NAIS' diversity think-tank cadre, Call to Action.
We are very excited for her to share her expertise with us!!
Join us in learning how we can, in age appropriate ways, instill positive self identity in our children and coach them to be positive influences on others' identities. Together, we can co-create inclusive communities that work toward success for all.
Everyone is welcome and this discussion will be presented in English, Spanish and Hindi.
Hope to see you on Thursday, January 28th from 6:30-8:00pm for the presentation and Q&A via Zoom.
