About the Committee

Northshore is dedicated to serving students social-emotional and behavioral well-being. We are seeking motivated and passionate staff, community, high school students and parents to participate in exploring school-based mental health supports. According to the CDC, one in five students in any given school year will experience some kind of mental health challenge. The Student Mental Health Well-Being Committee will work towards examining evidence-based practices and models that promote and address students’ mental health development.

The Student Mental Health Well-Being Committee serves as an advisory to the School Board and Superintendent, and as an advocate for our student community at large. The committee’s aim is to provide these stakeholders with support, guidance and information to fuel supports and services for students.

Committee members will examine existing strengths and opportunities within Northshore practices that promote students’ social-emotional and behavioral well-being. The team will be looking at supports and each tiered level of need, using the following inquiry process:

  • Tier 1 - Supports for All Students
    • What are existing NSD practices that support student well-being?
    • What practices can we use to enhance student well-being?
    • Are the supports culturally responsive?
    • What might be some barriers to implementing practices?
    • How can we overcome barriers?
    • What is our recommendation to move forward?
  • Tier 2 - Supports for Some Students
    • What are existing NSD practices for students at-risk of mental health challenges?
    • Who provides supports for students identified as at-risk?
    • How can we enhance Tier 2 practices?
    • What are barriers preventing implementation?
    • How can we overcome identified barriers?
    • What is our recommendation to move forward?
  • Tier 3 - Supports Needed for a Few Students
    • How strong are our community resource partnerships?
    • What partnerships exist?
    • Are they strong?
    • What partnerships are we missing?
    • What are our existing mental health supports?
    • What are the barriers for access?
    • How do we overcome identified barriers?
    • What is our recommendation to move forward?
