Our last PTA General Membership Meeting of 2018-19 was on Tuesday, May 14th! We reviewed and approved our 2019-20 PTA budget AND announced our annual PTA awards (among other business items on the agenda).
Congratulations to our 2018-19 PTA award recipients:
Their dedication and care enrich and brighten our school community in so many ways!!!
Barby Taheri (center right) with her family.
Here's of part of what was said about Barby (presented by Jennifer Herrman):
Barby cares deeply about our school, our PTA and serving all kids. She has served on our PTA's board of directors for 3 years (so far!)-- which is no small commitment. On top of that, she volunteers and helps wherever needed, even taking on chair positions when no one else is willing. Over the years, she has been in charge of Ice Cream Social, Skate Nights, Bingo and Awards, and has helped with Veteran's Day, Field Day, Art Docent, Spring Bazaar and more. If Barby is at an event (even if she is just attending with her family)-- she somehow always finds a way to step in and help. She is also a strong advocate, and took on the huge commitment this year of presenting an amendment to a WSPTA Resolution, speaking on behalf of all children in our state! Bonus: she brings humor and positivity to everything she does.

2. Pre Writing booklets for primary students.
3. Sensory support library for students.

5. Gross motor activities for recess options found on the black top play ground area.
6. Supported a recess alternative (game room) when space is available.

Here's a part of what was said about Dylan (presented by Angela Hacker):
Of all the educators that have taught my 4 kids over the past 18 years (which I believe to be about 32 elementary teachers), I have never come across a teacher that is so invested in his students learning, well being and making sure their experience is positive. He is encouraging, mindful, and supportive to everyone. He provides a supportive learning environment while making it fun. He truly goes above and beyond for every student. My son has never been so excited about learning and so positive about school until he was in Mr. D's class.

NOTE: This award has only been given ONE other time in the history of Canyon Creek PTA.
This individual has been serving PTA and our Canyon Creek community since 2011-- with each subsequent year, this person has continued to serve and be involved in a myriad of different ways. Burn out? No way. This individual's dedication has never wavered, the care and commitment to our students and our community has only grown stronger over the years.
Some of the many ways this person has been involved:
Melissa Kline leads with care and deep consideration. She has served as my mentor and has helped teach me about the importance of asking, with every decision: how does this serve our PTA's mission and goals? how does this serve every student? And I know it isn't just me... she continually works to help everyone around her to truly appreciate and understand the PTA vision of Every Child, One Voice.
This is her last year as a Canyon Creek parent, and Melissa continues to provide wisdom, insight and counsel to Canyon Creek PTA. She leaves a legacy of commitment that continues to guide and inspire and her impact on the Canyon Creek Community will leave a positive impression for years to come.
Thank you, Melissa, for your many years of service and dedication to Canyon Creek. It is truly an honor and a privilege to present this Honorary Lifetime Membership Award to you. :)
